Can’t Wait Until The Next Issue Of JAB?
The Jobs Abroad Bulletin now has an accompanying Facebook group where we can share the paid and voluntary vacancies we find around the world more frequently. Join us and other members there.
It’s already time to start acting to get a job abroad for summer 23. TUI have been teasing out details of their rep and childcare roles on social media this week, while their fitness, sports and entertainment jobs will go live around about the time this issue of JAB Extra does. Though limited, some positions are open to British nationals hoping to escape yet another shitshow from the loons that brought us Brexit.
Have you ever wanted to run your own ski resort? We’re asking for Inghams Ski who are calling on resort representatives to join their overseas team this winter in Morzine.
Alex Requin is looking for staff to come work on the beautiful island of Koh Ta Kiev, located near Sihanoukville, Cambodia. Their TripAdvisor reviews reveal this hidden tree house beach resort has a culture of taking on international volunteer staff and it now appears the resort, under new management, has need of a little TLC after two years of lockdown. A small salary of $180 to $500, depending on experience and position, is offered.
Kampot’s Cambodia Kiteboarding want instructors to start in December. Though winter is coming Angloville continues to need native English speakers happy to converse with participants on their English immersion programmes in Poland, Hungary and Romania. Bed and board are given in exchange for your help. Poland’s Just Speak and Germany’s Englischhausen also have winter dates.
The editors of this newsletter love Beirut but found out just how expensive accommodation is in this city on our first night in Lebanon when we pondered our limited budget friendly choices of either sleeping on the roof or joining a random German man in his room. These options were proffered at 8pm by a hotel owner in his pyjamas so we’re not exactly talking about the classiest joint here. Paying $125 a month for accommodation while volunteering as an ESL teacher can be considered a bargain way to explore this fascinating city.
Huski, our favourite named ski business, is also pointing out that winter is coming. They have a need of full time drivers and chefs for this season to create and deliver delicious restaurant quality dishes in Bourg St Mauritius. That’s in France, if you don’t know. Joanna Philips, for one, commented she didn’t know whether to pack her skis or beach wear.
If winter sport is your passion then working as a ski or snowboard instructor could be your dream job for the coming winter, say the SankiySki School Team in Bansko, Bulgaria, where the season starts mid December.
The Spitting Feathers, a pub, restaurant and airport transfer service based in La Plagne, Paradiski, France, still need two staff members for ski season 22/23.
A Norwegian business is looking for chefs, waitresses, and bartenders, saying they can fix accommodation and a ski pass. Helene Stewart says they are an awesome place to work.
Replying to a question on volunteering in South America in Nelson Santos’s excellent Volunteer Abroad for Free Facebook group, Ecuador’s Fundación Cusumbí chipped in to say they are a local non profit that only charges for food and accommodation. They run a conservation and educational project in an area of outstanding biodiversity - ranging from mangroves, estuaries, rocky reefs, and coral patches to moist and dry tropical forests - on the northern coast of the country.
This position in the private Volunteering opportunities around the world group will be at least a week old by the time this issue is sent but we think it is still worth sharing. A farm an hour away from Windhoek, Namibia, wants volunteers to help with their young but nice horses. You should be a capable rider and able to stay at least a month. Expect a full working week for your meals and accommodation. Here is the OP filming a cheetah trying to climb into her jeep.
With the same speed strays in Greek island restaurants took food away from us this summer, this salaried opportunity for a cat caretaker on Syros Island may well have been snatched up already, but if you love cuddling cats God's Little People Cat Rescue also has need of volunteers from time to time in both on site and online roles. Syros Cats is another shelter on the island.
Further afield - though I guess it depends on your starting point - Cook Islands SPCA sometimes use their Facebook page to put out a request for volunteers. Otherwise, send them a message and it is likely they’d be happy to have you there for however long it suits you.
The application deadline for volunteer teachers for Peace Boat’s 114th voyage is November 25.
A 65 metre motor yacht in the Middle East awaits a qualified nurse.
November to February is when Europe based private yachts start crossing the Atlantic to Caribbean shores, often taking on extra hands for the voyage. According to Kitiara Pascoe, who in 2014 left the UK on a small boat and sailed over 18,000 miles around the Atlantic and Caribbean, the choke point for the crossing is the Canaries. “Southern Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar and Morocco are all common places that boat-hikers sail from to the Canaries,” says Kit, who covers the topic in detail on her website. Crew are usually unpaid and pay a contribution to their upkeep on the boat. While an advantage, sailing skills aren’t always necessary to convince a skipper to give you a berth on their yacht, but demonstrating you won’t spend the journey puking over the side is helpful, as is a good attitude and cooking skills.
A qualified personal trainer can find a temporary home on a 90 metre private motor yacht with an exceptional itinerary in place, including locations such as Costa Rica, Columbia and Panama. The position also covers deckhand duties.
Another combined role listed on YotSpot is for a beautician on an 80 metre charter boat. This vessel is also heading west to the Caribbean and the advertiser says historically the crew have done extremely well in tips during the season there.
Freo Boat Works, in Fremantle, Western Australia, are hiring, so send them a message if you have always wanted to work on boats but not necessarily go anywhere in one.
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again, Irish pubs are always worth dropping in to network with the local expats, or enquiring with management if they need any staff themselves. These ones in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France and Lanzarote were all recently recruiting.
Annupuri Garden invites mixologists to send over their CVs and pictures of cocktails, and not just for shits and giggles: they’re offering a job in their high end bar in Niseko, Japan, beginning in December.

The Goat, in Goatstown, a suburb of Dublin want a senior chef de partie. In the heart of the Irish capital, Brooks Hotel needs a junior chef de partie.

If anything it makes it harder for us to tell when the listings were posted but among their up coming vacancies for ski chalet staff we can see two jobs in Switzerland, one in Gstaad, one in Klosters; a chalet manager required for winter 22/23 in Cervinia, Italy; an experienced couple looking to do another winter season in Meribel, France, and a professional domestic couple wanted to work the winter in a chalet in Verbier. There’s the added bonus of working the summer in a villa in Marbella with this one.
There’s a paid caretaking role in Australia on a cattle/sheep/goat property going today on Grey Nomad Jobs. The property is about 70km out from the nearest town of Tambo, Queensland. Two other caretaking positions were posted on the site recently.
Kingswood is currently advertising its adventure centre roles in the UK. Along with activity and watersports leaders, behind the scenes, maintenance, kitchen and housekeeping jobs are also available.
JCA Condover Hall, in Shrewsbury, is also looking ahead to 2023 with a selection of seasonal roles available from January to November with the option to return in 2024. Bar, retail, housekeeping, catering and general assistant are among the positions listed at https://www.getupandgojobs.com/job-search/?destination=uk-condover-hall. If that’s not your thing, try out for an outdoor activity apprenticeship.
One of our favourite things to do in Thailand is loafing beside the river in Kanchanaburi. Teaching 20 to 30 hours a week in this position listed by Saxoncourt leaves plenty of time for you to give it a go too. Plenty more vacancies in the country are listed on Ajarn.
If you want to gain life experience, enjoy teaching, wish to assist in the growth of a small rural school, or have skills in communication or fundraising, Edward International School has a volunteer opportunity for you. Find them in Kompong Speu Province in Cambodia.
Renting out a property is another way to skin the wanting to travel long term cat. This discussion in the Digital Nomads Around the World group (private group) is worth a look should you be thinking of becoming an Airbnb host, using the site as a traveller, or just enjoy sitting back with a carton of popcorn to enjoy an online ding dong.

They are also providing an online opportunity to meet with their recruiters on October 21 and will be present at an international job fair in Brussels on October 22.
An EU funded project in Azerbaijan is looking for an assistant and interpreter. Apply by October 26.

A massage therapist for a day spa in Cyprus and a seasonal beauty therapist for a 5 star hotel in France is among the latest vacancies listed on SpaStaff.com.
Crete’s Daskalogiannis Hotel is currently advertising for a chambermaid and waiter/cafe assistant via Just Landed. On the same island, the site also has a job offer for energetic, sea loving and responsible individuals in a busy five star hotel’s watersports centre. The role involves maintaining all the fun equipment and is open to European citizens with the ability to communicate in English, plus at least one more language from German, French, or Russian. If you speak Dutch, on the other hand, try this pool bar job for size.
Staying on Just Landed, there are a couple of animation jobs with Corfu hotels advertised by Ryan Animations. See here and here.
Ski/Summer Industry Jobs is one of our favourite Facebook groups at the moment for ski season positions, though membership is required. Recent posts include a ski school in Austria, located in Alpendorf, in the Ski Amadé region of Austria, offering a few weeks of instructing to those that can't commit to a full season. A lift pass will be provided, and there is accommodation available.
The first edition of O-Hayo Sensei, the newsletter of teaching jobs in Japan, since Covid restrictions were lifted is recently out and we can already see adverts without the dreaded “Applicant Must Currently Reside In Japan” in uppercase.
Over on GaijinPot, Borderlink is now hiring an assistant language teacher in Japan.
Calais based Refugee Community Kitchen is cooking anywhere between 60 and 120kgs of rice per day and is currently short on volunteers. No previous cooking or kitchen experience is required but they need a minimum three to four weeks commitment to train new volunteers willing to learn and get stuck in.
On Europe’s eastern sea border, we’re sure an application to Samos Volunteers would be welcomed too. Their current volunteer requirements are for a women’s space manager, and English, German, or Greek teachers. A teaching qualification is not required.
P&O Cruises require youth staff to join them on board in the coming months. Costa Crociere and Royal Caribbean International both need sports staff.
A couple of days ago Georgie Riddell had eight places available to chalet hosts for UHNW individuals.
Alpadia Language Schools run English camps for teenagers each summer in locations across Europe. Their recruitment for next summer begins in Frankfurt where they want an activity leader. Bakers Bay Club is a private members club catering to members and their guests in the Bahamas. They’re searching for an outdoor pursuit instructor.
According to Trek Travel, the 2022 season is just around the corner, so clearly they are another business that hasn’t changed small details that matter on their website. Despite this, we have seen them advertising recently in the newsletter of OutdoorIndustryJobs.com for bike tour guides. Training is Madison, Wisconsin.
In the same newsletter, Pacific Quest is seeking a program guide to join the team in Hilo, Hawaii.

The UK activity job market is getting going for 2023, says David Lynch, pointing us towards his site, BlueDome. He goes on to say: “Apprentice posts for 2022/2023 are arriving with Mount Cook Outdoor Centre near Matlock, JCA, and Blackwell Adventure all looking for trainees. Robinwood has raised all their salaries and is recruiting for 2023 and at the other end of the scale Outward Bound, JCA and Inspire Learning all have managerial posts.” See these vacancies and more at bluedome.co.uk.
Kalia, from New Zealand, posted a question in the private Camp Jobs group. She’s looking for a summer camp position in the USA in an arts related field, such as film, videography, painting and drawing. Among the leads and recommendations she, and perhaps you, would be interested in were from Point O’Pines, in New York. They need a camp videographer / video counsellor, and arts and crafts counsellors. Alexis suggested Camp Y-Noah (Ohio). They hire a media specialist every summer, a role she herself has held and describes as “so fun”. Camp Sloane YMCA (Connecticut) hires a media director responsible for photos, videos and social media, and NJY Teen Camp (Pennsylvania) is looking for a counsellor that would be able to do photography and videography as well.

Brian J Dean’s offer of a free bed in See Sea Backpackers House, Koh Phangan, to cheerful, helpful, energetic, punctual, reliable, dependable, self motivated volunteers putting in a 30 to 40 hour a week shift was met with no small amount of derision in the comments to his request. Some pointed out a spot of lunch might be nice too. The post has since been taken down so perhaps the comment situation escalated overnight. To be fair, the work seemed not particularly laborious of effort, if not time, so if anyone is interested try enquiring via See Sea’s Facebook page. We didn’t take down the details of the work involved but a Google of my short term memory indicates it mostly consisted of helping out guests type duties but nothing too heavy and, I think, a stay of one, preferably two months is required.
