SPAIN > Without the help of over 200 volunteers at AAP’s rescue centre in the south of Spain, near Alicante, AAP would not be able to do its work. Volunteers at AAP work as tour guides, animal caretakers, receptionists or drivers of the animal ambulance. They opened their doors in 2009 and take in chimpanzees, Barbary macaques and other primates, as well as big cats. Volunteers should be self funding.

⭐️Fair Trade, Sustainable Weaving, And Empowering Women
GUATEMALA > Empowering over 150 Maya women artisans through fair trade, sustainable weaving practices, Trama Textiles invites volunteers and interns to join them in Quetzaltenango. A women led cooperative owned 100% by Maya weavers, their volunteer programme is a vital part of their organisation and plays a key role in supporting Indigenous Maya women weavers and preserving ancestral textile traditions.
They primarily welcome women volunteers for between six weeks and three months, but will consider applications from a highly motivated man who strongly aligns with their mission.
All volunteers spend the first week learning how to weave. This gives them the opportunity to understand the weaving process and be better able to assist in the school. They can choose to weave a scarf, placemat, or table runner. The cost of this ranges from US$50 to 100 to cover materials and programme expenses. Trama Textiles provides accommodation to their volunteers for $50 per week and inexpensive street food is widely available locally. International interns stay for four to 12 months, staying in homestay accommodation for $160 per month.

⭐The Ronnie Is Hiring For Winter
FRANCE > Meribel’s Le Rond Point, aka The Ronnie is closed for the summer, but they have followed the pattern of previous seasons and popped up a message saying they are recruiting for the winter and asking us to answer five questions to apply for their management, bar staff, wait staff, kitchen staff and head chef positions.
⭐Join The Tibetan Bar In Morzine This Winter
FRANCE > Tony Tibetan is looking for bartenders - barmaids specifically, according to his advert title - to work at the Tibetan Bar in Morzine this winter. Last year, closer to the start of the season, Tony also hired servers and floor staff.
⭐Elephant Valley Project Volunteer And Site Coordinator
CAMBODIA > As EVP’s volunteer and site coordinator, you will be the heart of daily life at the sanctuary. You’ll coordinate volunteers, welcome guests, lead educational elephant experiences, work alongside local staff on practical projects, and help ensure everyone has a safe and memorable stay. Applications are due ASAP. EVP are looking for someone to start mid July to early August. You will receive a local salary of US$500 per month. They need someone who has a big heart, is flexible, loves elephants and wants to make a difference. An initial commitment of 18 months or longer is required for the right person. ⭐️Dahab Cat Care
EGYPT > JAB has spent more time than it wished fending off thieving felines from its dinner in Dahab. Once, we almost rolled around on a cafe floor trying to prevent a cat from clawing away a much longed for brownie from our fork. On another occasion, we had a moggy zipped up in our hoodie, head sticking out under our chin, as the only way we could finish a meal in peace.
Dealing daily with Dahab’s cats is Dahab Cats. Their website seems to have expired, but their socials are up to date, and they still have a volunteer registration form. Last time we mentioned them, we said they look to recruit volunteers, over the age of 21, who have a deep love and some practical experience with cats, to assist them with the operational running of their two sanctuaries. They would be particularly interested in recruiting vets, trainee vets, and veterinary assistants. Accommodation is provided in the cathouse.
⭐️Volunteering With Dogs In Sicily
ITALY > The Ciccio Garibaldi Dog Shelter (Calatafimi, Trapani) is always happy for international volunteers to spend some time at their shelter, caring for about forty wonderful four legged friends, feeding them, cleaning their enclosures, and walking them.
⭐️Elephant Nature Park
THAILAND > Early retired, slow travelling nomads Ashley and Levon share their time volunteering with Elephant Nature Park, a hands off sanctuary near Chiang Mai. ENP is pay to volunteer, but… elephants!

⭐From Waste To Community Space: An Upcycling Project In Togo
TOGO > We don’t know much about this project other than what it says in their Instagram post, but they must want international volunteers because they posted the same information to Volunteer Abroad For Free. Together with local schools, children collected plastic bottles from the streets. In return, the schools received support with learning materials and things they needed for education. With volunteers and local hands, these bottles became building material. Step by step, bottle by bottle, earth and plastic turned into walls. What was once thrown away became part of a shared space.

⭐️Teach Children And Feed Giraffes
KENYA > Have you been thinking of travelling with a purpose or looking for a real life empowering volunteer programme where you feel you serve where your help is needed the most without insane fees involved? Harry Charles Polycap, who posted this request for volunteers for Madaras School, says helping out two non profit schools located on the shores of Lake Victoria incurs zero fees if you can cook your own food (US$10-12 per day with meals provided).
No fee volunteering is unusual in African countries, and being quite suspicious and thinking this looks a little too good to be true, we spent a good hour (not helped by their website being down) trying to ascertain if this is genuine without finding otherwise. Harry got back to our enquiry to tell us that there isn’t a charge for accommodation and sent over an information pack that covers details ranging from child welfare and T & Cs to the school providing inexpensive trips to nearby places of interest.

KENYA > Back in January, Nickma Farm were admiring their mangoes, and a month or so ago they replied to someone looking for volunteer work without having to pay thousands of pounds for the opportunity saying: “We offer free accommodation and meals.” Their social media says they provide space for farm life lovers interested in agriculture and nature.

This is provided in exchange for four hours of work a day for the animal sanctuary at the foot of a mountain, 49 km north east of Athens. There is a volunteer application form on their website.

It’s a small, organic vegan permaculture community and animal sanctuary that in return for helping out for five hours a day, five days a week, offers volunteers a bed either in a shared room in the house or a small casot, along with three organic meals a day, with wine served with the evening meal. Working in the forest garden, gardening, feeding and tending to the animals, cleaning after meals, preparing meals from time to time and cleaning communal space are what needs doing.
