⭐️It’s Finally Autumn At The British Council
WORLDWIDE > Not long after our snarky post last month on the British Council’s loose definition of autumn, the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities relented, declared summer over, and opened applications for its English Language Assistants (ELA) programme. These six month or one year placements support the teaching of English in Argentina, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Quebec. The deadline for applications is January 28.
⭐️Skomer Island Volunteering Applications Are Open
UK > Applications close January 31 for the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales’ three long term volunteering positions on Skomer Island this year. Three months long, these positions are an excellent chance to gain practical conservation skills on one of the most important seabird islands in Britain. They also have a one month long seabird monitoring position. Apply by February 28 for this one.
⭐️Scottish Dolphin Centre Residential Volunteer Opportunity
UK > Are you passionate about marine conservation, wildlife, and connecting with people? The Scottish Dolphin Centre is inviting applications for its Residential Volunteer Guide Programme until January 19. £35 per week food allowance and free accommodation in an area full of amazing wildlife are the perks.
⭐️American Camps In Germany
GERMANY > There’s a map here of Kids Camp America’s kids camps in Germany. They hire teachers and teaching assistants with experience working with children - either in a teaching position or as a coach, au pair or similar - from English speaking countries all over the world, as well as German born English speakers, to run sports and activities programmes.
⭐️Help To Create An English Speaking Environment In Germany
GERMANY > If you have spent the past week talking English but paying for your meals and accommodation, then you are doing something wrong. There are places in this world where we can do what we do all day anyway, and people will feed us and give us a free bed to sleep in.
In Germany, these people are called Englischhausen. They spend much of their time creating English speaking villages where students can immerse themselves in our vocabulary and idioms. To volunteer as an Anglo in one of these villages, you should be a native English speaker, aged over 22, and enjoy conversation and learning about different cultures. Occasionally, fluent non native speakers are also able to attend as Anglos, as long as their English is close to or equivalent to native proficiency, and exceptions are sometimes made for outstanding applicants between the ages of 18 and 22.

AUSTRALIA > Mark de Groot can rack off with his opinion that applicants would effectively be signing up for unpaid labour - dude! free emu! - if they take Pierro Veillon’s suggestion to help his landlords in Coolalinga, NT, in exchange for free accommodation (for the first week, then A$150 per week). As well as Strech the emu, you’ll get to feed baby wallabies, meet Colin the little calf and Nugget the big one, watch the eight peacocks show off their feathers to impress the ladies, and chat with Reggie the cockatoo.
⭐️Land And Sky Iceland
ICELAND > Every year, Land and Forest Iceland (Land og Skógur) looks for volunteers who have some experience of camping and hill walking, enjoy wilderness landscapes and are ready for a challenge in Iceland’s notoriously changeable weather. They will be heading to Thórsmörk, Goðaland and beyond for three to nine weeks to take part in trail maintenance, land restoration and wilderness management projects. Food and campsites are provided throughout the placements, and there is no participation fee.
This year is a good year to do it. “This year’s solar maximum is expected to make Iceland’s northern lights even more spectacular,” say Einar Davidsson, a spokesperson for travel agency Guide to Iceland. Applications are open until February 15.

⭐️Volunteer On Lombok Island
INDONESIA > Ferenc Feiler is just back from Lombok, where he volunteered for four weeks with an organisation of local youth who teach English to local children for free. They are not on Facebook yet, but he will give us more information and contact info.
⭐️Teach Basic English And Engage With Local Students In Sidoarjo
INDONESIA > A school in Sidoarjo, East Java, is looking for passionate volunteers who love teaching, culture, and new experiences. Local meals and accommodation near the school are provided in return, but not, despite the delusions of some comments, flights.
⭐️Urgent Help Needed In Hoi An
VIETNAM > The director of a US nonprofit animal rescue shelter in Hoi An has had to rush home and really needs someone (private group) to move into her house near the shelter before January 10 and do five hours a day, five days a week, helping with cleaning and feeding, and vet trips.
⭐️Hang Out With Pumpkin And Carrot
THAILAND > Spend a week volunteering at an observation only elephant sanctuary on Koh Lanta. There is a fee - this is voluntourism - but at under £200 for the week, not including accommodation, we think it is a not unreasonable one for this experience.

THAILAND > SINE invites passionate native English speakers to join their Experience Isaan Program. This immersive, short term experience places you in government schools across Northeastern Thailand. No teaching experience needed.
⭐️Bay Of Biscay Science Communicators
AT SEA > The Wild Path found this ocean conservationist gig abroad Britanny Ferries. The role follows an approximate four weeks on, four weeks off rotation, sailing across the Bay of Biscay to Spain from Britain or Ireland. The application deadline is January 11.
⭐️Castle Maintenance
ITALY > A thousand year old castle in the Tuscan mountains is looking for a hands on maintenance person with electrical skills for work from March until October. Italian is a plus, but English is a requirement. Accommodation can be provided if needed.
⭐️Language And Culture Exchange In Busan
SOUTH KOREA > LanCul, a global community in Busan, is a place for foreign travellers to meet Korean friends and learn the Korean language and culture, and for Korean English learners to meet foreign friends and talk in English with them. English speaking volunteers can stay between three and ten weeks. Accommodation is free, and you can cook in the kitchen.

WORLDWIDE > Hiring events are coming up in February and March in the USA, Canada, and Europe, as well as virtual ones, for the Backroads trip leader and trip prep specialist positions we mentioned in our last issue.
⭐️Camp Cayuga
USA > Camp Cayuga is a private nonsectarian residential camp in the Pocono Mountains of Northeast Pennsylvania for boys and girls ages six to 16. They are hiring multi talented counsellors from English speaking countries who are qualified to instruct more than one activity.
⭐️Work For Sangria
GERMANY & SPAIN > Legends of the fest, aka festival crew or Stokies, will get their accommodation, food, beer and sangria free when helping Stoke Travel put the infrastructure in place for paying customers to bull or booze fueled festivals in Spain or Germany. Past festival crew have included acrobats and electricians, dancers, accountants, hospitality workers, carpenters, bar staff, receptionists, tour guides, soldiers on leave, and TV personalities. They also have volunteer opportunities available at their San Sebastian Surf House and in Barcelona.

⭐️Work Sleep Beach Repeat
SPAIN > If you believe their website, EU residents looking to work in Spain under Dutch supervision will have to wait a little longer until applications open at Mallorcajobs.com. Their Instagram, however, says otherwise. This states applications are now open for restaurant jobs on the island. The season runs from April to November.
⭐️Koh Rong And Koh Rong Sanloem Volunteering Options
CAMBODIA > M’Pai Bay is the guesthouse hotspot on Koh Rong Sanloem, and the direction volunteering curious travellers are pointed towards. Taylor, a travel blogger who visited in 2019, suggests that basically every hostel and bar in town is seeking volunteers who are willing to put in some easy working hours in exchange for free accommodation. Beach House Cambodia is certainly known for having volunteers about the place. A former volunteer, who went on to be a paid manager at the hostel, says they had 12 volunteers at a time there (though they did say it was a fucking nightmare, with three separate cliques at one point, and a relief when certain people’s visas would run out).
Dragonfly Guesthouse has also been suggested, but the current owners are ready to sell up and move on to new ventures. Speaking of new ventures, Jamie Albert and his friend Kasper bought a restaurant, bar, bungalow and glamping business on the island called On the Rocks. They have been happy to have volunteers working in the bar for bed, booze and food. The Cliff Hostel has been known to take on volunteers as well, but reviews from two of them, which we think were left by two friends, are less than positive.
Over at Saracen Bay, The Big Easy likes volunteers to stay a month on their island crew. Yellow Sun Koh Rong sometimes needs volunteers, offering two meals a day, drinks and accommodation to work alongside their local staff. And, only last month Watersports Cambodia had an opportunity for a female or a couple to help out around their dive centre. It’s possibly gone, but we noted them wanting volunteers earlier last year, so it’s not a one off.
⭐️Death And Clowns
SAUDI ARABIA > Professional artists are currently sought to work in Saudi Arabia for six days from January 26. Required performances are for a clown, Globe of Death, Wheel of Death, and trapeze. We both hope and assume this is for a circus.
⭐️Gnomes
NEW ZEALAND > At Gnomes, they are seeking enthusiastic people who enjoy working in a fast paced environment, with a love for the mountains, and derive satisfaction from assisting the customers in their ski and snowboard retail stores.
⭐️Activity Centre Support Roles Open At Condover Hall
UK > JCA has begun their recruitment for catering assistants, retail assistants, kitchen porters, and housekeeping assistants for their Condover Hall activity centre. These positions are seasonal, full or part time. Applications close January 12 or 23, depending on the position.
⭐️Travelbound Publishes Their 2026 Chateau Du Molay Vacancies
FRANCE > Part of the same Experience Education Student Travel Group as JCA, Travelbound is hiring until February 20 for their Chateau Du Molay venue, host to residential school trips from the UK. Positions are open to those with the right to work in France, including chefs, pot washers, general assistants, activity assistants, kitchen porters, and maintenance assistants.

CROATIA, GREECE & ITALY > Neilson Active Holidays got ahead of themselves this year, posting their vacancies for the summer earlier than usual. Among them are these bike guide and mechanic positions pitched at individuals who wish to combine their love for cycling and outdoor activities with a desire to help their beach club guests have an unforgettable holiday.

FRANCE > Le Local Morzine is looking for a reliable kitchen assistant to join them for the remainder of the winter season.
⭐️American Village Camps
FRANCE > Have a dig around the website of American Village Camps because recruitment for the 2026 season is open, and they are inviting us to check out their calendar and available positions. If you can bring the English language to life for school children aged eight to 14 years old, are eligible to work in France and are suitable for this employment opportunity, then there may be a job here, somewhere, for you. Tigger, Peachy, Eagle, Bon Bon - are these made up? - and Mr Fresh did it.
⭐️Summer Village Camps
SWITZERLAND & AUSTRIA > Village Camps will be needing language teachers, activity counsellors and support staff for their summer camps in Austria and Switzerland this summer, from the end of June until early or mid August. It’s applications from EU nationals, Norwegians and Swiss only in Austria, but Brits, Americans, Canadians, Aussies and Kiwis will also be considered for their vacancies in Switzerland. Camps are usually held in Portugal, too. At the time of writing, recruitment information wasn’t available for there.
⭐️Become A Summer Camp Coach At An International Camp In Northern Spain
SPAIN > The Village offers an opportunity to work as a summer camp coach in Spain for four weeks in July. They hire native English speakers (or Spaniards with C1) to engage in sports, music, dance, drama, games, outdoor activities, and coastal and mountain trekking.

WORLDWIDE > The Road Less Traveled is now seeking trip leaders knowledgeable in any or all of the following: language immersion, service learning projects, backpacking, camping, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, kayaking, scuba diving, and biking. Interns are also hired in supporting roles.
⭐️The Language Farm Will Start Hiring Soon
GERMANY > Four hours south of Berlin, The Language Farm teaches English through adventure, music, cooking, outdoor experiences and creativity. When we scrolled down to the bottom navigation on their website to their Join our team link, we found they hadn’t yet updated their application form for 2026, but we expect them to do so shortly.
A few years ago, in response to Brits locked behind the Brexit paywall looking to work with them, they said “where [there] is a will there is a way,” but on their form for 2025 they stated that they were looking for native English speakers, or those with a native level of English, who are already living in Germany, and to: “Please kindly refrain from applying however, if you do not already live in Germany. You must also already have a valid visa to work in Germany available to send to us.”
We have also seen them on occasion hanging out where outdoor instructors do, looking to hire canoe instructors/ lifeguards to join their tours in July and August.
⭐️International Boarding School Summer Staff
SWITZERLAND > Club and activity leaders with a minimum one year of university studies and experience working with children are on the list of staff the Leysin American School, an international boarding school in the Alps, is hoping to attract for the summer.
⭐️Summer Camp Jobs In Crans-Montana
SWITZERLAND > Applications are open until January 30 to get in with International Summer Camp Montana as a staff member at their summer camp in the alpine resort of Crans-Montana. They’ll be needing group counsellors to assume the role of parents while their charges are away from home, activity specialists, English, French and Spanish language teachers, and drivers. Swiss and EU citizens will have no problem working there, and US, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand and South African passport holders can obtain a work permit.
⭐️Airport Transfer Assistants
FRANCE & SWITZERLAND > Immediate starts are available to join Inghams mid season, supporting arrivals and departures for Les Deux Alpes, La Plagne and Les Arc. ⭐️Volunteer Opportunity In A New Hostel
GEORGIA > A brand new hostel opening in Tbilisi is looking for friendly, responsible, and social volunteers to join the adventure.
⭐️Two Volunteers For Fairyland
PORTUGAL > Gota de Alma describes itself as a magical project with a big dome and a large grass area with trees around a lake for outdoor events, ecstatic dances, ceremonies, and workshops. They are looking for two volunteers.
⭐️Volunteer On An Island In The Mekong River
LAOS > Helping the people around them on Don Som island, the Dom Som Project has already built toilets for schools, a bridge, got fans for a school, a teacher/student building, books for children, an activity centre for kids to come to play and learn, and more. Volunteers can pitch in and help for a minimum of two weeks in exchange for food and shared accommodation. While a lot of information is provided in their post to the Volunteer South East Asia group, we couldn’t find any mention of the €14 per day to cover your costs and support the project reported in a recommendation from a volunteer there earlier this year.
⭐️Volunteer On Another Island In The Mekong River
LAOS > NK Seeds first came to JAB’s attention when one of their signs featured in the background of a YouTube video shot during lockdown. Started by a young French woman, they already help fund one free English school on Don Khong, the largest island in the Mekong River, and have recently got involved with another, Double Horizon English School, on Don Deng Island. Volunteers can help here, teaching a couple of hours a day. five days a week, assisting their local English teachers and contributing €70 per week towards homestay accommodation and two meals a day.

⭐️UK Will Rejoin EU’s Erasmus Student Exchange Programme In 2027
EUROPE > The UK will rejoin the Erasmus study scheme from 2027, six years after announcing it would end its participation as part of a deal to leave the European Union. Britons will be able to spend a year studying at European universities as part of their UK degree courses without paying extra fees, and vice versa for European students.
⭐️Experienced Instructors Available From March
IRELAND > Training begins March 24 for the new cohort of Carlingford Adventure instructors. UK citizens have full rights to work in Ireland, and Carlingford Adventure will help in the process.
⭐️Language Assistant Programmes In Spain
SPAIN > Accepted into the North American Culture and Language Assistant Program, Daniel Catena nearly fled when confronted with his first class, which would have been a shame as he now considers it one of his greatest travel experiences. The next application period should begin in February. Canadians will be able to apply here. Joshua Paavola’s website and Auxiliar de Conversacion Bureaucracy Guide Facebook group are places to get advice and ask questions about the programme.
For Native English speakers who have experience with children, another option is the UCETAM language assistant programme. Applications for the 2026/27 academic year should open in the next couple of weeks.
⭐️US Teaching Assistantship Program In Austria
AUSTRIA > As a US teaching assistant in Austria, you will work in one or two Austrian secondary schools, teaching 13 hours every week. If you are interested in applying by January 15, you will need at least an undergraduate degree (or be in your final year) and have a working knowledge of German.
⭐️Young Austria Camps
AUSTRIA > Young Austria has been encouraging the participants in their kids camps to speak English in all situations - for the whole day - since 1950. They’re looking forward to receiving applications from native English speakers for 2026.

A family running a campsite in the Sinai is still searching for the right person to join them as a live in volunteering teacher for their two boys.
⭐️BUNAC Vs Camp America Vs Camp Leaders Vs CCUSA Vs Americamp Vs Another Summer Camp Placement Agency
USA > If you’re not from the States, you will need the right to work in the country in place before taking a job at a summer camp in the USA. The J-1 visa is the easiest way to do this, and can be obtained along with a job offer through several organisations, including Camp Counselors USA, Camp America, IENA, InterExchange, CIEE, Camp Staff USA, Americamp, Work Play USA, Camp Leaders, and Wild Packs.
Which of these is best will depend on factors personal to you, but advice and opinions can be found in the r/summercamp/ subreddit. There is the option to apply to a camp directly, too. Some will arrange visas themselves, but the reason for this could be that placement agencies won’t work with them, and employment cancellation could leave you stranded. One tip we liked, from a hiring coordinator/director, suggested applying directly to a camp that works with an agency already and, if they hire you, they can go through the direct hire process. This way, you may get paid more than when placed through an agency.

USA > BUNAC is on a summer camp hiring world tour and is inviting registrations to attend. Summer camp directors are flying in to London, Dublin and Madrid to offer the chance to walk away with an American summer camp job arranged on the day.
⭐️The Hole In The Wall Gang Camp Jobs
USA > No experience with children or serious illnesses is required to work at The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, just a ‘hole’ lot of heart. Their camps in Connecticut and Maryland serve seriously ill children and their families. They will start making job offers to summer programme staff - counsellors, program specialists, medical staff, kitchen team, facilities crew - after February 1, but will continue to process applications until all positions have been filled.
⭐️Whale Camp Is Hiring
CANADA > Whale Camp is hiring environmental science instructors, outdoor recreation and dorm instructors, and a camp nurse/medic for their 2026 summer team. Whale Camp is a residential marine science programme grounded in experiential and place based learning in the Bay of Fundy, home to the highest tides in the world. Staff are primarily from the US and Canada, but they can obtain work permits for one or two international staff.

⭐️Summer Camp Counsellor Jobs In Scotland
UK > Camp Cooper is an international summer camp based in Scotland for international and British children aged seven to 17. They opened applications last month to be a role model, friend, leader and mentor for their campers. While they are only able to hire staff who currently have the legal right to work in the UK, those with this eligibility who live abroad may be offered video interviews as an alternative to attending in-person assessments.

CANADA > Embarking on an unforgettable Canadian adventure with eight to ten weeks at camp and up to six months of travel time is the dangling carrot (plus some money) offered by Camp Canada. They have hiring fairs coming up this month in London, Liverpool and Glasgow.

WORLDWIDE > The Really Great Teacher Company has got all mumsy, licking a tissue and wiping a bit of dirt from JAB’s face before sharing these tips for avoiding English teaching job scams.

EUROPE > Party Hard Travel opened applications in November to represent them in Ayia Napa, Kavos, Magaluf or another of their destinations around Europe, but there is still time for people with three A-levels and a strong liver to apply. Try Rep Route and Summer Takeover, too.
