CAMBODIA > Jewel Black is available to volunteer for two weeks in Phnom Penh or Siem Reap, and took to the internet for some ideas. A minimum of two ski or yacht seasons, and a deep understanding of luxury property maintenance and fine furnishing care are some of this employer’s essential requirements.
⭐️Ski Resort Cleaners And Housekeepers
SWEDEN & NORWAY > In the crisp, snow covered village of Hemsedal, Norway, a small service company was born in 2003. With just a handful of dedicated souls armed with mops and brooms, they embarked on their journey that has led to two Word docs put up on their website encouraging EU/EEA citizens to apply for their ski resort housekeeping and cleaning positions for the 2025/26 winter season.

⭐️EPIK Spring 2026 Applications Are Open
SOUTH KOREA > Now is the time to apply for one year teaching contracts through the English Programme in Korea (EPIK), a programme affiliated with the Korean Ministry of Education. Applications opened on August 1, but it has taken us this long to face wading through their irritating website.
Last year, we wrote that the programme is open to nationals of the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, with a BA degree in any subject, and aged under 62. Indian nationals and applicants from regions where English is not the majority language, such as Puerto Rico, Quebec, etc, can also apply if able to provide additional documentation. We assume this information is still correct. We’re not going back into their website to double check and you can’t make us. It’s too risky: there are sharp objects within reach.
EPIK says they will be creating a MySpace group where they will post updates throughout the application period, where you may ask questions as well, and you can meet others applying for the term.
⭐️Teach English In Japan To Children

We had no idea until we went through this list of grants and bursaries available from organisations for horticultural projects, exchanges and travel.

⭐️For The Love Of God, Do Not Apply To This One
FAKELAND > Last month, we included a bizarre but slightly wonderful post that, while we thought genuine, had a few red flags, so we thought it best to add a few warnings to it.
There was also an actual scammer hijacking the comments to the post and others in the same group, offering more information in return for joining their Telegram group, so we added a warning against that too. The type of obvious warning that once we would have thought patronising, but learned a few years ago that within any grouping of people, a certain amount will be desperate enough, thick enough, or don’t have good enough English that they will click on the link anyway.
Many years ago, we shared a fake job advert on our old Facebook page in an attempt to show our readers what a scam job post looked like and offer a few tips on spotting scams. Internet job boards are littered with adverts like the one we reproduced then, and while sure none of our readers would be fooled, especially when we clearly stated it was a scam, we decided at the last moment to remove the contact details.
Thank the heavens we did. Lots of people left comments on the post saying they were interested in the job, including leaving their phone numbers. Even after amending the post with the words “IT'S A FAKE” in caps, going further again with “(I REPEAT: LARRY IS A FAKE. THE JOB IS A SCAM. PLEASE STOP ASKING FAKE LARRY TO CONTACT YOU OR LEAVING YOUR PHONE NUMBER)” people still kept trying to apply for the job.
⭐️Volunteers Experienced With Dogs
ITALY > Back in April, Hold Fast To Dreams Sanctuary and Rescue were proffering a rare and unique role for a kennel manager in Pareto, Alessandria. This unpaid role wasn’t as rare and unique as everyone thought: they need someone new to take over.
⭐️Cat Photos
UK & IRELAND > If we weren’t so easily distracted by cat photos there would be many more vacancies in each issue of JAB. Just writing this sentence sent us down a deep, dark hole of moggy media for three hours, only paused when we asked ourselves: Is it possible to make a career out of taking them?
Apparently, it is. Walter Chandoha, originally a WWII combat photographer, managed to do so, filming cats at their eye level, taking almost 100,000 cat pics. While we didn’t find a cat photography job to share here, the RSPCA need volunteers to photograph and video animals in their care so they can advertise them on rehoming pages on their website and on Facebook.
⭐️‘It’s Back To The Future’: The 13th-Century Castle Built By Hand In France
FRANCE > Since construction began in the woods on a new 13th century French castle, complete with ramparts, turrets, a vaulted great hall, chambers, kitchens, and a chapel, Chateau de Guédelon still is not quite finished, reports the Guardian, a quarter of a century after their first visit. When they began, £400,000 was raised from the European Union, regional and local government, a French insurer, the electricity board and a private television station. They hired 35 workers, including stonemasons, carpenters and unemployed locals. More than 100 volunteers signed up for stints of a week or a weekend.
It has been a while since Chateau de Guédelon advertised their requirements in English for volunteers on their website, but today ticket, food and souvenir sales pay the salaries of 160 staff. Recruitment information is now in French only. They recruit primarily for the periods when they are open to the public, from April to October: construction trades, of course, with stonemasons, carpenters, masons, etc. But also receptionists, shop salespeople, catering professionals, guides, educational facilitators, etc, as well as professions related to communications, the web, management, and accounting.

The comments section is, as always, a delight. Don’t venture down there without a strong stomach.

⭐️Help Provide Free English Classes For Underprivileged Cambodian Children
CAMBODIA > In Cambodia, students who don’t speak English cannot progress to higher education or enjoy higher paying jobs. Despite this, government schools teach very little English, and many teachers charge a high price for extra hours of learning. In Battambang, the AKD School has been providing free English classes to Cambodian children of all ages. The school now has more than 200 students, eight local teachers and hosts volunteers, both short and long term, from around the world. You don’t need to be a teacher or fluent in English. They say motivation, kindness, and a desire to share and connect are more than enough. They’ve two buildings to accommodate their volunteers. A $5 a day fee goes towards this, food and drinks, and the running costs of the school.

⭐️Childsafe Volunteering
WORLDWIDE > Volunteering with children is done with the best intentions, but sometimes our activities can have a negative impact on the local community. Orphanage volunteering is a particularly contentious issue. There is a strong argument that travellers working with children in institutions such as an orphanage do more harm than good and should be left to local experts. ChildSafe aims to provide volunteers with the necessary tools to engage in responsible and ethical volunteering. At the bottom of their page for volunteers, they list organisations where volunteers can have a real impact, though it should be said that many, perhaps even most, of the links they provide are duds.

Unfortunately, thanks to Covid, they no longer have a volunteer house, but can advise on alternative accommodation in the area.
