FRANCE & AUSTRIA > Merinannies needs nannies from December to April to offer freelance childcare services in Meribel, Courchevel, Val Thorens, Chamonix, Megeve, La Clusaz, St Anton, and Lech. Don’t despair should these positions be filled. We would expect in the coming months to still see them on the lookout for more childcarers to cover peak weeks - Christmas, New Year and other school holidays - over the winter season.

FRANCE & ITALY > Venue Holidays’ employment page is so last season - though we’d expect vacancies for campsite reps to be available soon - but if their ads in Season Workers are anything to go by, they will be wanting a senior campsite representative and an area manager in 2024.

JAPAN > Following up on last issue’s Paid Workaways In Japanese Ski Resorts we’re back in the country to recommend checking out Sharyn McCullum’s Work and Ski Japan: How to Get a Job in a Japanese Ski Resort. Her post answers many of the questions new working travellers wanting some JAPOW will want to know.

⭐️Help A Community Tourism Project On South Africa’s Wild Coast
SOUTH AFRICA > When Gabby Boucher volunteered in the Transkei at Bulungula Lodge, an enterprise entirely owned and run by the local Xhosa community, she found a place where traditional, rural South Africa is preserved, where the people speak a click language and volunteers can experience life in a traditional African village.
Tourism here is used as a tool to address poverty and rural development, creating jobs for 30 community members. The lodge welcomes people who can teach their skills to their staff who have never been in a position to travel themselves. Gabby helped with creating content for their various social media platforms but they can also use people skilled in carpentry, building or DIY. Bulungula Lodge has a listing on Workaway but it may be possible for non members to avoid joining by messaging them through their Facebook page or emailing paradise@bulungula.com.
Gabby also volunteered with Pachamama Forest Retreat, a self-sustainable community outside Knysna. They too sometimes announce when they have openings to join their tight and productive volunteer team through their Facebook page.

ITALY > Do you love theatre and working with children? Aside from falling between issues, it unsurprisingly took the most famous travel blogger only one day before he had enough applications to be getting on with. REMOTE > If you have attractive feet or even ugly feet pics and are comfortable with the idea of selling pictures of them, it can be a great way to earn some extra cash, says Jenn Leach. She has put together a comprehensive guide to this unusual, dare we say weird, idea to make some money online, following up in another post to consider the potential risks and legal implications.

PERU > This Saturday Surf Cerrito will be celebrating two years of sharing their love of surfing with children from Cerrito de la Virgen, a small underdeveloped community in Northern Peru. What better present could we get them than some new volunteers.
⭐️Yet More Congratulations Are In Order
SPAIN > Someone working for Delicioso, a catering and yacht provisioning company in Mallorca, is having a baby. To cover their maternity leave they will be interviewing from the middle of the month for a versatile yacht provisioning and office admin person who should among other things be fluent in both Spanish and English, and aged over 25.
⭐️Applications For The 2024 JET Programme Will Close Sooner Or Later
JAPAN > Brits and Aussies need to get a shift on if they want to walk into a Japanese classroom as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) next year. They have until November 9 and 10 respectively to apply to the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme. Americans and Canadians have up to a week longer, while the Irish and Kiwis can chill until December.
Applicants interested in applying to Japan’s official programme for hiring classroom language assistants must do so through the Embassy of Japan in their home country by the deadline designated by that embassy. This handy PDF leaflet provides more information and embassy contact details, including for nationals of South Africa, Philippines, Singapore, Jamaica, Barbados, and Trinidad and Tobago. Nationals of other countries, including non English speaking ones, are recruited too. Here is more information on eligibility.

⭐️Six Week City Counsellor Programme
USA & CANADA > Manchester based Skilled Summers has introduced a new six week counsellor programme for those who love to travel and experience the big city life. Aimed at budding teachers, the programme is shorter than a usual camp counsellor programme and available in Canada too. Applicants must have an exceptional level of English and past experience working with children.
As is not unusual with camp placement organisations there is an application and placement fee involved: £355 in this case, not including flights. This is recouped by earning not less than $2000 in either Toronto, Vancouver, New York, or Los Angeles. See this very nice indeed presentation for full details.
⭐️Without Volunteers Stonedead 2024 Won’t Happen
UK > Monster rock festival Stonedead is in full planning mode for 2024. Inspired by the legendary Monsters of Rock festival held at Castle Donington from 1980 until 1996, Stonedead is created by music fans for music fans and organised by volunteers.
⭐️Slide Candy Fix
FRANCE > Slide Candy, a self described small, slick, and quality mobile ski and snowboard rental business operating in Meribel and La Tania is currently recruiting for a ski and snowboard service technician. Max Cooke has already emailed them.
⭐️Churchill Fellowship Applications Close November 14
WORLDWIDE > UK resident citizens, aged over 18, with a vision for change in their community or profession, don’t have much longer to apply for a Churchill Fellowship. Churchill Fellows are funded to spend up to two months - including through international travel - to discover new approaches and best practices in their chosen topic from innovators and leading professionals worldwide. The application window slams shut at 5pm on November 14.

⭐️Last Call For Peace Boat’s 117th Global Voyage
WORLDWIDE > Peace Boat's language training programme, GET, is accepting applications for English and Spanish language teachers until November 13, 2023.
⭐️Discover Poland, Speak English And Ski Freely
POLAND > Get ready for an exciting winter adventure in the Polish Alps, courtesy of Angloville. Each of their Junior Ski programmes aims to improve the English speaking skills of around 40 primary and secondary school students aged 12 to 18.
This is aided by enlisting the help of approximately 20 English speaking participants ready to share their culture and language. These international participants should be university students and recent graduates who seek to explore new places. Applicants should also be aged between 18 to 35 and enjoy a diverse range of hobbies and interests.
Along with the usual benefits enjoyed by Anglos on their summer programme, including full board, activities and city tours, participants in the Angloville Junior Ski programme also get a free one day free ski pass and ski rental. ⭐️Wildlife Rehabilitation Manager
UK > Completed applications need to be submitted by November 5 to stand a chance of landing the wildlife rehabilitation manager role with Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue in Windlesham, Surrey. The management of volunteers is one aspect of this position.

⭐️Dragon Boat Helm
UK > Warwick Boats and Leam Boat Centre are looking for enthusiastic individuals to train as dragon boat helms for their corporate, youth group, and charity dragon boat events. Full training is provided with paid part time and session work from April to October.
⭐️Ski Team Tutors
AUSTRIA > Ambition Racing and Team Evolution, two British ski academies training athletes in Austria, have both placed ads for English and Humanities teachers in Ski-Jobs recently.
⭐️Volunteer At Yoga Retreats
WORLDWIDE > Awake Space need a preferably bilingual French-English speaking assistant to act as a group coordinator for the retreats and yoga teacher training they conduct from a 13th century château in France. If you’re a massage therapist you can offer this to guests for extra income.
Ama-gi, in Puerto Morelos, Mexico, provides breakfast and hostel style accommodation, plus use of the pool and a bike to volunteers able to stay at least a fortnight doing chores about the place. In Bulgaria, RisingSoul Retreats have indicated they are open to volunteer applications for next season from May to September.
⭐️Travel Saudi Arabia, UAE And Oman
MIDDLE EAST > David Lynch took to social media recently to inform us that Husak Adventures is using his Blue Dome website to seek an outdoor education manager for a two year contract. Part of the job involves travelling around the region. The applicant needs to be mature with vast experience within the outdoor education field.
In the UAE, another role available to someone with plenty of experience and qualifications is open at Zayed Military University (ZMU). They want a leadership and initiative training instructor to be responsible for the instruction and development of their cadets, equipping trainees with the personal skills and leadership competencies required to complete officer training.
⭐️Concierge Assistant
FRANCE > A concierge assistant is needed to complete a small winter season team in Morzine, France.
⭐️Volunteer Teachers Wanted In Uganda
UGANDA > For the last seventeen years, Ssamba Foundation has been focusing their efforts on assisting the people of Uganda’s Mukono district. Towards the end of last month, they posted to the Volunteer Abroad For Free Facebook group that they are looking for volunteers to teach languages, mathematics, science and music, starting in mid January.
On their own website, they say their volunteer programme is completely free and in return volunteers are provided with meals and accommodation. Scroll a little further down their volunteer page and you’ll see that they do ask for a one off placement commitment donation of USD$250.
